The judges recognised the skill with which the stylists at Bertone and Centro Stile Alfa Romeo had drawn on Alfa Romeo's extensive heritage, in particular the 1900 SS, the Giulietta Sprint, the Alfetta and Giulia Sprint GT, yet had produced a car that has its own unique style and character.

The sought-after annual Design Trophy awarded by French publication L'Automobile also celebrated the Alfa GT’s styling, with its readers voting for the Italian coupé ahead of competition that included the new Mercedes CLS and the Citroën C4.

Wolfgang Egger, head of Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, and Lilli Bertone accepted the award at the 26th Trophées de l’Automobile, their joint presence marking Alfa Romeo’s long-standing cooperation with various Italian designers.
