The UK Automotive Exportation sector is a global leader in process and product innovation of New and Used Second Hand Autos to the rest of the world. Within the European Union, the UK’s Exportation industry has the best car and commercial vehicle makers and exporters. British citizens (English – England, Welsh – Wales, Scottish – Scotland and Irish – Ireland) bought over 2.5 million new cars in the UK last year, 0.4 million European Cars and 5.6 million used second hand cars. Cheap car and auto production is rising since joining the European Union, now exporting about 1.67 million cheap units. New and Used Second Hand Commercial vehicle exporters and passenger vehicles production, looks set to exceed 600,000 auto units for the first time since 1998.

In the recent years, the exportation of new and used cars from the United Kingdom (UK) to the rest of the world (including Japan) has significantly increased. This Exportation success is in contrast to past years where the bulk of vehicles being exported from exporters in Europe, were mainly from Germany. Japan however, still dominates the world’s bulk source for the exports of cheap new and used cars either second hand, or from car Auctions. These cheap Japanese vehicles to many countries worldwide including Britain and the rest of European Union, was due to the reliability that these cars have and the cheaper costs of running Japanese vehicles in general.

The purchase of second hand cars from Auctions and Auction houses such as the British Car Auctions has significantly dropped with the increased strength of the British pound. Joining of the European Union has also reduced popularity of Car Auctions in the UK because cheaper Cars can be exported and Imported from Europe – Germany in Particular - without restriction and risks associated with car Auctions. The sector now accounts for over 9% of our total export of goods. Over the last 5 years UK has exported, on average, over a million cheaper cars a year - a fivefold increase in real terms since 1986 and twice the amount from Germany. Japanese, German, African and American manufacturers import cheaper British built cars into their home markets and over 70% of UK Car Exports go to Europe, including Germany.

A number of new design details create an overall impression of a new prestige car in Volvo’s model range.
"All new parts are like cut diamonds, precious gems. Correctly designed and placed in the appropriate setting, they forge a powerful image of elegance and prestige," says Steve Harper, the person responsible for the design of the new Volvo S80. The design of the new Volvo S80 is packed with these "gems" – outside and inside alike. The front has been reworked. The complete front section that surrounds the grille has a new profile with a gentler transition to the body sides and to the spoiler area. The lower air intake has been re-profiled and features a transverse chrome strip which links together the foglamps. The foglamps themselves are new and have larger light apertures. The grille has a new square mesh pattern in dark silver metallic. The surrounding trim is chromed. This gives an elegant and more three-dimensional impression.

Chrome details in combination with colour-matched mouldings and other details emphasise the car’s design. This applies, for instance, to the chromed door handles and the mouldings below the side windows. The door mirrors have been redesigned to cut air drag and reduce dirt accumulation on the side windows. The rear of the Volvo S80 has been redesigned for higher quality and more distinct style. The bootlid is now made in one single piece. Above the number plate there is a new handle capped with a chrome trim. The tail lamps are now somewhat smaller. This has been achieved by using brake lamps featuring LED technology, which means the brake lights are activated more quickly. They now make room for a panel between the lights and the bumper, which is accentuated by a slim chrome strip at the bottom of the lights. This panel is painted in the body’s colour. The rear bumper has a more substantial profile. It is colour-matched to the car’s body, with the exception of the dark grey panel at the bottom. This harmonises instead with a corresponding panel along either side of the body.

Inside the car, there are new door panels. They enhance the aura of quality, not least since they blend more smoothly with the instrument panel. The front doors have new handles that make it easier to reach and close a wide-open door. Interior trim details such as the centre console and controls are of a richer, darker charcoal colour than before, which also improves the clarity of the control graphics. There is the option of panel inserts in aluminium or wood. The new walnut panels create a distinct refined tone to the whole interior. The ventilation system controls have chromed inlays and the control panel for the power front seats is colour-matched to the rest of the interior. The textile upholstery on the rear hatshelf is of a new quality, of the same type as found in the Volvo XC90. The sun-visors are now covered in the same textile as the inner roof lining.

The gauges in the combination instrument have been redesigned. In six-cylinder models, the dials are of the watch-dial type similar to those in the new Volvo S60 R and V70 R, but refined in a unique style to create an elegant and sporty image. The five-cylinder models have a combined instrument of the same type as found in the Volvo XC90, with a thin metal ring surrounding the dials. A new three-spoke wooden sports steering wheel is available as an option on the S80. The steering wheel is of the same type as that fitted to the S60 and V70. The Volvo S80 Executive is the most exclusive Volvo S80 available. Several special features, such as unique leather upholstery and genuine walnut panel inserts, are fitted as standard to make the Volvo S80 Executive a motoring experience out of the ordinary. With spacious legroom and options such as a refrigerator and a unique Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system, passengers in the rear seat can enjoy high-class comfort and top-quality entertainment.

UK CAR MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

‘British American’ Ford and their brokers - where 25% of the company's entire global engine production, and all its diesel engines, now come from the UK at a much cheaper rate than anywhere else on the world. These cheap rates ensure that the United Kingdom (UK) is ahead of the rest of the manufactures in car exporting. British GM Vauxhall and their Brokers - where production at Ellesmere Port is to be expanded to meet demand for the new Astra cars. ‘British Japanese’ Nissan and their English brokers who blazed the trail to the UK in the early 1980s, and continues to run the most productive car manufacturing site in Europe.

Great Britain - Especially the English industry is continuing to show a firm commitment to the science budget - more than double since 1997 to £3.3 billion by 2007/8. The English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh secured £12million for the hugely successful Manufacturing Advisory Service - a program that has boosted manufacturing by more than £53million, delivering an average £100,000 added value to every manufacturer that goes through the full program.

THE FUTURE OF THE UK CAR INDUSTRY (EXPORTATION AND MANUFACTURE)

It is anticipated that the Exporting of New vehicles and second hand used cars and the funding for the Technology Strategy will increase by £140m per annum by 2007/8. Taken with the re-direction of existing spend on exports innovation, this will increase spending on the Technology Strategy to more than £250m per annum on exports, by 2007/8.
