New Cars Exportations - Used Exports UK

USED CARS EXPORTS

The average trade value of a typical three-year old car is currently £5,762, according to Glass's Guides, but this is set to fall a little to £5,677 by next month. Values have fallen by 4.8 percent (£380) over the last three months, and this trend is predicted to continue over the summer, but Glass's points out that values are remaining stronger than in 2003. "It is expected that this trend will be maintained in the short-term future while interest rates remain low, house prices continue to rise and the consumer spending boom shows little sign of abating", analysts say.

Sector-by-sector, the average three year-old supermini (on an X registration plate) has fallen in value by £252 (6.3 percent) in the last three months, as a growth in new supermini sales has meant a glut on the secondhand market. Models holding their value the best are the Toyota Yaris, Peugeot 206, Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia and Seat Ibiza, which retain 42.3-49.5 percent of their original purchase price. Poorer performers include the Vauxhall Corsa, Fiat Punto and Ford Fiesta (38.6-33.9 percent) and obscure models like the Suzuki Swift and Subaru Justy (30.1 percent and 29.8 percent).

Values of X-plate small family cars have fallen by an average of £268 (5.9 percent) since February. Strongest performers are the Volkswagen Beetle and Golf, the Subaru Impreza and Honda Civic (45.4-54.2 percent of original value); poor investments include the Fiat Brava, Proton Wira, Kia Shuma, Kia Mentor and the old Alfa 146 (25.9-28.7 percent).

Values of compact MPVs have been running high, but the boom appears to be over as there is now a plentiful supply to the secondhand market; X-plate examples are now an average of £950 cheaper than in February. Best investments are the Kia Carens, Nissan Almera Tino and Fiat Multipla (retaining 43.9-44.8 percent of their new value) and poorer performers include the Daewoo Tacuma, Renault Scenic and Citroen Xsara Picasso (39.4-40.6 percent).

Larger models have fallen by only £350 in the past three months. Still strong are the Volkswagen Passat, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Skoda Octavia, Renault Laguna and Toyota Avensis (39.6-46.8 percent); losing money fast are the Kia Clarus, Ford Mondeo, Fiat Marea, Daewoo Nubira and Citroen Xantia (20.7-26.8 percent) though all these models have now been replaced. Compact executive cars have fallen by £327, but residual values remain very strong: the Lexus IS200, Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series retain 54-55.5 percent of their new price; the Volvo S60/S40 and Saab 9-3 are a little weaker (38.5-41.6 percent) though both the 9-3 and S40 have since been replaced by far more appealing new versions.

Values of one-year old cars (52-plate) have fallen by an average of £450 since February, and five-year old cars (S-plate) by £262.

In the recent years, the exportation of new and used cars from the United Kingdom (UK) to the rest of the world (including Japan) has significantly increased. This Exportation success is in contrast to past years where the bulk of vehicles being exported from exporters in Europe, were mainly from Germany. Japan however, still dominates the world’s bulk source for the exports of cheap new and used cars either second hand, or from car Auctions. These cheap Japanese vehicles to many countries worldwide including Britain and the rest of European Union, was due to the reliability that these cars have and the cheaper costs of running Japanese vehicles in general.

The purchase of second hand cars from Auctions and Auction houses such as the British Car Auctions has significantly dropped with the increased strength of the British pound. Joining of the European Union has also reduced popularity of Car Auctions in the UK because cheaper Cars can be exported and Imported from Europe – Germany in Particular - without restriction and risks associated with car Auctions. The sector now accounts for over 9% of our total export of goods. Over the last 5 years UK has exported, on average, over a million cheaper cars a year - a fivefold increase in real terms since 1986 and twice the amount from Germany. Japanese, German, African and American manufacturers import cheaper British built cars into their home markets and over 70% of UK Car Exports go to Europe, including Germany.

UK CAR MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

British MG Rover and their brokers - whose joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation will help to fund the exporting and development of new vehicle models at cheaper manufacturing costs. ‘British Japanese’ Toyota and their English brokers whose £50 million investment at Burnaston has raised the exporting capacity by more than 50,000 and created 500 jobs;

‘British American’ Ford and their brokers - where 25% of the company's entire global engine production, and all its diesel engines, now come from the UK at a much cheaper rate than anywhere else on the world. These cheap rates ensure that the United Kingdom (UK) is ahead of the rest of the manufactures in car exporting. British GM Vauxhall and their Brokers - where production at Ellesmere Port is to be expanded to meet demand for the new Astra cars. ‘British Japanese’ Nissan and their English brokers who blazed the trail to the UK in the early 1980s, and continues to run the most productive car manufacturing site in Europe.

Great Britain - Especially the English industry is continuing to show a firm commitment to the science budget - more than double since 1997 to £3.3 billion by 2007/8. The English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh secured £12million for the hugely successful Manufacturing Advisory Service - a program that has boosted manufacturing by more than £53million, deliveringan average £100,000 added value to every manufacturer that goes through the full program.

It is anticipated that the Exporting of New vehicles and second hand used cars and the funding for the Technology Strategy will increase by £140m per annum by 2007/8. Taken with the re-direction of existing spend on exports innovation, this will increase spending on the Technology Strategy to more than £250m per annum on exports, by 2007/8.
